ABOUT US
The Ikebana International Bucharest Association was founded in March 2023 at the initiative of Florentina Vinica Barbu, together with Ms. Sanda Lazur and Prof. Dr. Sorina Petra.
We are grateful to Ms. Nadia El Borai Yamamura (former president of Ikebana International, a world organization based in Tokyo) who proposed and supported our initiative.
We are also grateful to the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine Bucharest (USAMVB, Bd. Mărăști, 59) and the Faculty of Horticulture, which hosts us (our headquarters is at "The Little House" - the Floriculture Laboratory). They have always supported us from all points of view and supported all our actions.
The purpose of founding the association was to affiliate with Ikebana International and thus promote friendship between Romania and Japan through the art of Ikebana and other related traditional Japanese arts; to stimulate, cultivate and perpetuate the study of the art of Ikebana, as well as related arts; to strengthen relations and communication between teachers and experts specialized in the art of Ikebana, between teachers and those interested in the study of this art; to encourage the study of cultural activities regarding the art of Ikebana.
To achieve its stated purpose, the Association aims to carry out the following activities:
1. establish and conduct activities on the art of Ikebana and other related arts;
2. hold demonstrations, exhibitions, conferences, events, meetings with the aim of studying, appreciating and promoting the art of Ikebana and other related arts;
3. hold seminars, courses and educational events on the art of Ikebana and other related arts;
4. promote experts in the field of Ikebana and other related arts;
5. issue publications on the art of Ikebana and other related arts;
6. support and host international events on the art of Ikebana;
7. offer awards to individuals who have contributed to the promotion of the art of Ikebana and other related arts, as well as to the development of international relations;
8. support the cultural activities of other cultural organizations;
9. encouraging children and young people to participate in activities related to the art of Ikebana and other related arts, by participating in events created especially for them;
10. promoting the conservation, protection and development of the environment;
11. promoting and supporting research in the field of Ikebana art, other related arts, as well as scientific research in the field of plants and the environment;
12. conducting activities necessary to achieve the above objectives, such as participating in conferences and events, collecting funds and sponsorship requests;
13. developing its own programs and in partnership with public authorities in the country and abroad;
14. developing its own economic activities for self-financing;
15. other activities provided for by law, according to the purpose of the association.
In September 2023, Ikebana International Bucharest received approval from Ikebana International to be a Prospective Chapter, and in August 2025 it received approval as a Chapter.
Our motto is "In friendship through flowers".
We want to bring joy and peace to those around us, with the help of flowers.
